The concepts of \u201cidentity\u201d and \u201cdiversity\u201d are highlighted together with a positive focus on pride, and the opposite \u201cprejudice\u201d is introduced. The teacher\u2019s guide suggests that polygamy is natural in that one can be in love with several people at the same time, and that changing gender identity and sexual attraction is impossible. The teachers should repeat the concepts of \u201cdiversity\u201d and lead the students in questions about who can wave the pride flag, where the answer is \u201ceveryone\u201d. This book pushes pride forward as completely unproblematic, while if a student believes that pride should not be celebrated, \u201cobjective arguments\u201d are required and the discussion must be \u201cstopped\u201d so that it does not develop into an offense for any students.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The book asks students \u201cwho are you deep down inside yourself,\u201d which is consistent with queer theory that \u201ceveryone should be themselves,\u201d and what they can choose between later is which identity they have: gender identity and sexual identity. Students are to write an \u201cidentity poem\u201d about someone in their family, and it is assumed that the goal is to find someone \u201cqueer\u201d in the students\u2019 family who can be talked about in the classroom. In Chapter 2, &quot;I&#039;m Right,&quot; it starts with a conversation (page 50) in a classroom where the character Bom is teased because he\/she\/it(?) doesn&#039;t know if he\/she\/it(?) is a girl. Without this being explained further in Chapter 2.<br><br>Further at the beginning of chapter 3 (page 66), Bom explains that he\/she\/it(?) likes glitter skirts in a poem called &quot;I&quot;. Bom is a kind of genderless \/ gender-unspecific character who appears in various passages where gender becomes a theme or question that students must consider in the book.<br><br>If we go to the 4th grade science book by Cappelen Damm, the question is asked:\u00a0<em>Is a boy a girl if he wears a dress?<\/em>. The answer to that is in the teacher&#039;s guide.\u00ab<em>no<\/em>\u00ab&quot;. While in the same chapter in science about\u00a0<em>gender identity\u00a0<\/em>is gender conveyed as a feeling about the children<em>\u00a0feel like a girl, a boy, both, or neither<\/em>. This feeling can be expressed, so-called\u00a0<em>gender expression<\/em>, and then in the form of hairstyle, interest, makeup,\u00a0<em>clothing\u00a0<\/em>and behavior. These are complicated questions, and this is not the answer to what identity, ego and self are. This is more like a way of placing people in boxes based on interests and visible and invisible categories and characteristics. If we connect this teaching about &quot;identity&quot; with the teaching about &quot;diversity&quot;, children are taught that &quot;they should be themselves as they are&quot;, which is the main mantra of queer interest organizations and often heard by activists and from the Minister of Culture and Equality Anette Trettebergstuen.<br><br>The person who decides &quot;who one is&quot; is the child themselves, and they can choose between categories and identities that suit their interests and what the child likes. If you connect this starting point to gender identity in science for 4th grade from Cappelen Damm, it means that &quot;what children feel they are, is who they are&quot; in choosing gender.\u00a0<br><br>This way of introducing identity and diversity is connected to the idea of &quot;intersectionality&quot;. That people have \/ are their identities where the combination of identities can be violated or discriminated against. We find this in chapter 2 of the book, page 60, that\u00a0<em>\u00ab&quot;Freedom of speech applies everywhere in society. As long as you don&#039;t discriminate, you can say what you think.&quot;\u00bb<\/em>.<br><br>The problem with this limitation is that with an &quot;intersectional&quot; approach, one should look for possible ways in which language can discriminate \/ offend, and interest groups are given the power to define the language of everyone, which is cemented by new laws that limit freedom and freedom of expression. For example, &quot;gender-neutral language&quot; and the like are introduced to achieve &quot;safe classrooms&quot; and &quot;safe spaces&quot; where no one should experience offensive words or expressions. The idea of &quot;right to self-identification&quot; is about &quot;\u00ab<em>Children know best who they are.<\/em>\u00bb (and what gender\/gender identity they have). In Store Norske Leksikon it appears that some critics claim that the concept of identity is too static. And people end up in boxes based on categories, characteristics or beliefs they have. This provides the basis for &quot;intersectionality&quot; as mentioned above and which can be better understood in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-LqrvViQBCI&amp;t\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this movie<\/a>.\u00a0<br><br>Teachers are taught that\u00a0<em>valuing diversity contributes to a better and richer society for all<\/em>. Everything that can be categorized as belonging to diversity should be interpreted and assessed as positive. The emphasis is on people being allowed to be who they are, i.e. characteristics and group affiliation and such, while diversity of opinion seems to be left out. It is positive that this is being opened up, but the question is how the teacher defines the next part that the teacher asks for factual arguments, and then stops the conversation so that it cannot be offensive to anyone. This is a lot to demand from (8) 9-year-olds, factual arguments and the conversation should not be able to offend anyone.\u00a0<br><br>In practice, this means that there is a view that should apply in the classroom and at school: pride is only positive, the rainbow flag represents everyone. Those who disagree are subject to strict requirements, and students who disagree can be censored by the teacher if necessary.\u00a0<br><br>This can cause problems for children of conservative parents, for Christians, Muslims or other believers who have a different view of gender and sexuality than that conveyed by queer interest groups that are promoted in Norwegian textbooks.
